Groupset: Shimano

Shimano XTR Trail M985
The new 2011 Shimano XTR Groupset. Blingtastic, super-light and race-ready. If you expect every bit as much out of your equipment as you invest in your training, then you’re in the right place. The new XTR groupset doesn’t just ask to be pushed at race pace, it positively demands it. 2 x 10 Drivetrain Shimano’s first-ever off-road double-ring crank rewards those who ride with a sense of urgency. Despite weighing under 700g, this purpose-built race crank maintains all strength and durability that XTR cranks are famous for. With a new short-cage, double-ring-specific front derailleur that combines with the new Dyna-Sys 10-speed rear derailleur to seamlessly shift the new off-road-specific 10-speed XTR chain. It all adds up to mindlessly fast shifting, giving racers fewer excuses for losing and even more ways to win. For those up to the challenge, XTR Race delivers like never before. New IceTech Brakes Forget the notion that a cross-country brakes are skittish and on-the-edge-of-control. The new XTR Race brake supplies surgically precise stopping power, while still shedding 40g over its previous incarnation. Throw in ergonomically re-engineered lever pivots, the industry’s first full ceramic caliper piston and a new IceTech rotor cooling system and you’ve got a brakeset that out-performs most under any conditions.

Shimano XTR M970
Shimano is the first choice for mountain bike equipment – Shimano mountain bike group sets start at the top with XTR. XTR has been designed with high performance racing in mind, it combines the expected level of Shimano reliability with a whole new generation of shifting and braking system designed to make changes faster and more fluid. Dual Control shift levers are the ultimate in performance allowing gear changes with a light flick of the hand and smooth powerful braking. XTR is super lightweight and combines clean lines and robust dependability.

Shimano Deore XT M770
Deore XT hovers just below XTR and benefits from a trickledown of many of XTR’s developments. It combines lightweight performance, durability and ease of use with a slightly cheaper price ticket and small weight penalty. For all but the top pro riders XT will meet the demands of trail, racing and leisure.

Shimano SLX M660
SLX series takes over as the mid-range MTB group designed specifically for off-road riding. The distinct range of options within SLX allow you to tailor your components to your preferred off-road style, from XC through to All-Mountain.

Shimano Saint M810
Shimano’s Saint groupset was the component giant’s first foray into parts specifically designed for “extreme” riding. The result was a great performer and undoubtedly very robust, but it came with something of a weight penalty. The heft of the original Saint parts meant that large parts of the target market (especially downhill racers) stuck with Shimano’s lighter groups and took the chance that they’d hold together. With that in mind, the all-new 2009 Saint group sees a considerable weight reduction while still promising enhanced performance and durability.
