SUN RINGLE MTX 29 featured at DIRT 100 for 2011 products!

“DIRT 100 2011: SUN RINGLE MTX 29” By Author: intern

We don’t know what it is about these rims that makes them quite so good, but the simple fact is that they are. Actually it’s a combination of all sorts of things. Firstly at 29mm wide they’re a good width for pretty much any size tyre, secondly at 570g they’re far from heavy, and finally as long as they’re not built up by a monkey they can survive an incredible amount of abuse.

You can happily use these as part of a hard hitting set of trail wheels, but on the other hand they’ve proved strong enough to be used as a lightweight set of DH race rims. Oh yeah, there is a twenty quid cheaper ‘pinned’ version, but unless the bailiffs are about to knock on the door we’d go for these welded ones every time.

Fixed Gears invades Answer Rove DJ Stem & ProTAPER® 720 AM!

Initial Reaction: Answer Rove DJ Stem & ProTAPER® 720 AM

Got awesome package from Answer ( @Answerproducts ) today. Remember the Rove DJ stem I posted about earlier? Well that came, along with a pair of Answer’s new bars, the ProTAPER® 720 AM. Such an improvement over my previous cockpit. The bars feel a lot lighter and they look a lot lighter too. The tapers on these, along with the slight 4° up sweep, makes them look like a 25.4 bar. They’re not though. 31.8 all the way. Paired with the Rove DJ stem’s wide clamp bite, it’s one solid bar / stem combo.

Check out some more shots below…

50mm length. The nice thing about the stem is the actual stem body is thin, allowing even a short stem to maintain a nice proportion on the bike.

61mm wide faceplate, giving it a super stiff bite.

Clean machining too! The stem comes in a pewter finish, with 4 faceplate color options.

I chose black. Super stoked on this setup. Thanks to the guys at Answer for hooking it up!

Exclusively available at Tionghin, in store now!

Sun Ringle Charger Pro AM Wheelset review at Bike Radar!

“A great performing wheelset combining light weight and impressive strength” – By Ric McLaughlin, Mountain Biking UK

The Charger AM wheels come in 24-hole guise and have a lean combined weight of 1,730g (780g front, 950g rear).

Sun Ringlé have grafted a pair of their cartridge bearing, straight-pull hubs onto a set of tough Stan’s NoTubes licensed rims, which offer up BST technology. BST gives a wider rim base for the tyre and aims to reduce pinch punctures.

They’re laced together with Wheelsmith double-butted spokes and red alloy nipples. They’re also available in a 29er option, along with QR15, 20mm and standard 9mm quick-release front fitments, and two rear axle width options.

The Chargers’ stiffness is instantly noticeable, especially on the rear. There’s no twang at all and, even when thumping them hard into tight berms, they stay taught. They impressed on their big-hit ability too and gobbled up root sections and drops.

Minor criticisms would be that, although the engagement is crisp, it’s maybe not as immediate as some of the Charger Pros’ competitors and the graphics now look pretty tatty.

They’re more than £100 cheaper than Mavic Crossmax SX wheels though. Don’t get hung up on the all-mountain tag either; we reckon the Charger Pros would work well on a lot of trail machines too.

Sun Ringle has produced some new tubeless compatible rims using the licensed Stan’s NoTube bead socket technology (BST). The new and very sweet looking Sun Ringle Chargers are available in either the Pro or Expert versions, in 26 and 29 inch sizes, and come in either black or white.

Hayes Disc Brakes Stroker Ace review at Bike Radar!

“Super-reliable mid-weight all-rounder; lacks lever adjustability and fine feel” – By Guy Kesteven, Mountain Biking UK

Hayes’ big four-pot brake is a very reliable, controlled and durable all-rounder. The lever feel is blunt though, and full kit isn’t cheap.

Hayes use the same fat bodied, L-shaped flip-flop lever across the whole Stroker range. The hooked blade gets a reach adjuster wheel and two-part clamp, but there’s no bite point adjust and it’s wobbly from new.

It’s mid-weight, despite the big four-pot calliper, and sets up easily with only occasional rub after heavy braking. Power is good with average modulation in the dry, but the lever feel is wooden and it’s significantly less controlled and noisy in the wet.

The massive pads last really well and overall reliability of Hayes brakes is excellent.

Answer Fall Line DH grips review at Bike Radar!

“A good-looking grip that does what it needs to do” – By Robin Weaver, Mountain Biking UK

The Fall Line DH grip from Answer features two lock-on style rings that hold the thinly patterned grip firmly in place.

With 130mm of grip available, there is adequate room for manoeuvre and the thin, unobtrusive pattern offers a little cushioning, which is great when things get bumpy.

Once the initial sheen wears off the rubber, a tacky surface remains that will produce plenty of friction between the glove and the grip. The thin profile provided plenty of control and kept arm pump at bay.

Although there are various colour options for the lock-on rings, the Fall Line grips will still set you back the best part of £20.

All colours available at Tionghin NOW! Grab them fast..
