Transition Bikes 2011 are here!!!

2011 Transition TR250
The TR250 borrows many great race proven characteristics from it’s sibling the TR450 to create a tight and responsive short travel DH bike that absolutely rips. Making the TR250 versatile was the top priority with adjustable chainstay length, travel, BB height and head angle, there is nothing on this bike you can’t tweak. The suspension features the same great progressive feel as the TR450 but offers adjustable travel settings for two distinct feels at 160 or 180mm depending on your mood. The TR250 is meant to be ridden hard and put away wet since it is extremely easy to maintain. This bike is built for riders that love DH style bikes but are looking for something more playful that is incredibly easy to throw around that can still rail down gnarly downhill lines.

2011 Transition Bank
The Bank hardtail is our new evolution, lightweight aluminum hartdail. Built to be fast and agile, the Bank is a very capable 4X or dual slalom race bike but also is a ton of fun on dirt jumps and pump tracks. The frame features a new custom formed top and down tube with integrated gusset which makes for a lighter and stronger front end. We’ve finished the frame off with a host of CNC’d machined parts to give it a very clean but unique look. The rear end features our very own CRAP (Concentric Rear Axle Positioning) system that we developed in-house. C.R.A.P. is a clean system that allows you to run a geared or singlespeed setup with a tidy looking dropout area. Run our Revolution wheelsets with 10mm thru-axle QR system for the ultimate in stiff and easily maintainable rear end.

2011 Transition Trail Or Park
The Trail-or-Park represents our goal to make a no compromise dirt jump/park hardtail with BMX inspired features. Made of lightweight 4130 seamless butted chromoly, internal headset and spanish BB, the Trail-or-Park has borrowed from years of BMX experience to make a bike that can stand up to constant abuse while creating the cleanest looking lines possible. At 5.6lbs the frame is extremely easy to move around with minimal effort and the chromoly tubing gives the bike a forgiving feel while remaining very responsive. We wanted the Trail-or-Park to be a bike you didn’t have to worry about ditching in the air without having the weight penalty. Over the years we have dialed in the perfect tube butting to shave weight while retaining stifness and durability. Geometry is designed to be versatile for dirt jumping, park and street riding since most of our hardtail customers ride all three. Super tight chainstays make this bike manual for days and the overall angles make this bike comfortable from the first pedal stroke.

2011 Transition Trans AM
Everybody will agree that riding hardtails will make you a better rider which is why almost everyone at Transition owns and rides their TransAM a ton. Designed to tame XC trails as well as aggressive all mountain lines, the TransAM begs for epic rides and quick rips after work. Throw in the ability to run singlespeed or gears and you have one of our most versatile bikes that will improve your bike handling skills dramatically. Getting back to the roots of mountain biking and actually feeling the trail is what all mountain hardtails mean to us.

Of course we choose 4130 butted chromoly for this frame as it gives you unsurpassed trail feel. The ability to accelerate and pedal with the ultimate responsiveness while eating up the vibrations of rough trails is just one of the many reasons steel is our only choice. We finish the frame off with an ED (Electronic Deposit) treatment that creates a rust proof surface on the inside of the frame so you and your TransAM will have a long and lasting relationship through dry times and wet times.

Aaron Chase rides for Answer Products and Manitou!

It almost seemed to be too easy of an opportunity. Aaron Chase’s availability to ride new cockpit components opened up and he just happened to be in Milwaukee for the Ray’s Mountain Bike Park “Odd Couple” video contest invitational.

“Knowing he was going to be in town, we called him up to see if he’d like a tour of our factory,” said Tom Porter, Answer Products® Product Manager. “We’ve always been a fan of Aaron’s riding style and personality. He’s one of those approachable riders who also just happens to be an icon for the sport. One thing led to another and he walked out of our office with an armful of new Answer product to hang on his bike!”

Chase will be riding Answer Pro Taper Aluminum DH Bars with a one inch rise, The Rove DJ Stem, Rove FR Pedals and Answer gloves.

“I really enjoyed meeting the crew at Answer and touring their facility. The engineering capabilities that they have under their roof are some of the best I’ve seen. I am really stoked to ride the product- the pedals feel great and the bar and stem are super responsive. I put it to the test filming my video for Ray’s…It’s lightweight, stiff and can take a beating. I’m excited to represent the Answer brand.”

Aaron rode his new Answer product to 2nd place at the Ray’s Odd Couple video invitational with partner and fellow Hayes rider Mike Montgomery, who also took home the “Best Trick” award.

New Manitou, Sun Ringle and Hayes – Taipei Cycle Show 2011

Manitou debuts their QR15 HexLock axle equipped Marvel trail fork inside, and you can also check out Sun Ringle’s brand new Carbon SRD wheels.

2012 sees Manitou make the leap to a 15mm thru-axle on their Marvel trail/XC fork, although one can only assume that it is just a matter of time until we see it on other models that currently use 9mm QR dropouts.

Manitou Marvel Pro details:

  • 100mm/120mm of travel
  • Iso Air spring
  • ABS+ Damper
  • Adjustments: air pressure, compression to lockout, rebound
  • QR15 HexLock thru-axle
  • Tapered steerer tube
  • 3.3lbs (100mm travel w/ QR15 HexLock axle)

Hayes Prime Expert

  • Tool Free Dead Stroke (essentially pad contact point adjustment)
  • Hayes standard disc hose
  • Stamped stainless disc rotor
  • Steel/aluminum hardware (clamp screws, bridge bolts, mount bolts)
  • Steel hardware (mount washer, banjo, banjo bolt, pivot bolt, pad pin)
  • Pad printed graphics
  • Titacon lever bushing
  • Semi-metallic pads
  • No hose grommets
  • Steel push rod
  • Claimed 415g

The Prime is designed to offer tool free contact/reach adjustment and increased braking power over their Stroker brake.  They’ve developed a new rotor as well to match this new brake.

Hayes Prime Pro

  • Tool Free Dead Stroke (essentially pad contact point adjustment)
  • Hayes premium disc hose
  • Two piece floating rotor standard
  • Titanium hardware (clamp screws, bridge bolts, mount bolts)
  • Anodized aluminum hardware (mount washer, banjo, banjo bolt, pivot bolt, pad pin)
  • Lazer etched graphics
  • Titacon lever bushing
  • Sintered metallic pads
  • Standard hose grommets
  • Titanium push rod
  • Premium finish
  • Claimed 385g

Manitou have adapted their proven HexLock axle system – the axle has a hex shape in the clamping zones as opposed to being round – to the 15mm standard, incorporating a quick release lever into the design. There are updates to the 2012 Marvel Pro hidden inside as well, with the fork using their new Iso Air design that is said to be more compliant than other air sprung systems, especially at the top of the travel – the achilles heel of many air springs. The fork uses TPC+ internals to control damping. The Marvel is available in two travel options; 100mm and 120mm, and you can choose between black or white lowers.

Hayes announced the coming of the PRIME brake some time ago and it looks like things are finally falling into place.  Check inside for a video overview as well as product highlights on the Prime Pro and Prime Expert disc brakes.

Manitou’s QR15 HexLock thru-axle uses a 90 degree quick release lever to disengage the axle from the lowers. The gold dial adjusts the tension once the QR lever is tightened down. Adjust it once and it is set from then on in.

Sun Ringle also showed Pinkbike their new Carbon SRD trail bike wheels are sure to have many riders drooling. The non-tubeless rims are 26mm wide, perfect for the high volume 2.35 inch tires that many trail riders use, and are strung together with straight pull double butted Wheelsmith spokes (24 per wheel) and anodized red aluminum nipples. Total claimed weight is 1555 grams, although the goal is also to be much stiffer than aluminum rimmed options that also approach the weight.

Pivot Mach5 vs Stairs!

Singapore local rider Eric with his Pivot Mach 5 climbing the stairs at the end of ButterFly trail!

Video below…

Bicycle suspensions pose incredibly challenging design problems for engineers. Human power is limited and rider comfort is of paramount importance. Acceleration efficiency, traction on climbs and in corners, bump absorption, pedal feedback, braking influence, frame strength and stiffness, frame geometry and frame manufacturability are all factors that must be considered during the development of a suspension system. dw-link combines all of these performance factors into one perfectly balanced system.

Ultimate Efficiency
Why the dw-link suspension is the best performing suspension system in the bicycle world:
Simultaneously engineered anti-squat and wheel rate curves are the mathematical formulas that make dw-link the world’s most efficient and traction-aiding suspension system.

3-Stage Anti Squat Curve
Newton’s 3rd law states that every action has an equal and opposite reaction. When a vehicle accelerates, the reaction is that its mass is transferred rearward. dw-link’s patented position sensitive anti-squat perfectly balances this rearward mass transfer, increasing efficiency, traction, and bump sensitivity, and eliminating pedal feedback.

Progressive to Linear Rate
Each dw-link frame is engineered for an optimum wheel rate and to work for a specific use with a specific spring and damper. Unlike other suspension systems, dw-link’s does not rely on pedaling platform type dampers, giving the best bump absorption and traction of any suspension available today. Advanced riders use these traits to pump terrain in the trail and add momentum.

Balanced Braking
The dw-link suspension projects its instant center to an ideal location, achieving a balance of traction and stability under hard braking that is unmatched by other suspensions.

Least Pedal Feedback
Perception of pedal feedback on a bicycle is a manifestation of rapid chainstay length change and gearing effects. dw-link uses a smooth and positive chainstay lengthening effect to offset negative gearing effects. This results in a smooth ride with imperceptible pedal feedback over entire gear range.

Best Traction
As your suspension reacts to obstacles, the position sensitive dw-link axle path intelligently changes to meet the demands of the trail. In the beginning of the travel, its rearward profile gives incredible small bump absorption and traction on the climbs. In the middle of the travel, the dw-link axle path works with the front suspension to provide a balanced feel for amazing cornering confidence and jumping ability. The end of the travel provides an increase in compression damping for bottomless suspension feel and big hit absorption.

Structural Superiority
Dw-link uses short, stiff links, aligned in the direction of incoming forces, and a triangulated rear swingarm. This unique layout aligns suspension forces in the most efficient layouts possible to enable frame designs with industry leading strength-to-weight ratios and stiffness. This structural advantage lets dw-link riders put down power more efficiently and track straight in the bumps where others veer off course.
